Apricot’s Network Referrals Are Now Open to Everyone – Here’s Why You Should Opt In

In an exciting update from Bonterra, Apricot’s Network Referrals (also known as Closed Loop Referrals) are now available to any organization using Apricot. Previously limited to pilot participants in select regions, this functionality now allows any organization using Apricot to collaborate more efficiently with other Apricot-using partners. If you have local partner agencies who also use Apricot, you can now share referrals seamlessly, track referral status, and close the loop across organizations.

This update opens the door to more streamlined, accountable, and connected service delivery, without requiring complex setup or third-party tools.

What are Apricot Network Referrals?

Network Referrals, also known as Closed Loop Referrals, are designed to support cross-agency coordination. They allow Apricot-using organizations to send, receive, and track referrals between each other using a shared process, all within their existing Apricot systems.

With Apricot Network Referrals, you can:

  • Send referrals directly to another Apricot organization
  • Track status updates and outcomes across both orgs
  • Reduce the need for duplicate data entry or manual tracking
  • Build collaboration without sharing internal data or forms

This functionality helps organizations collaborate more effectively while maintaining data integrity and compliance.

If you’re new to this feature, we recommend starting with our overview of Closed Loop Referrals, which outlines how the process works and why it matters..

Why this matters now

Until recently, Network Referrals was only available to a limited number of organizations in a limited geographical area. With Bonterra’s latest release, this feature is now available to any organization using Apricot – there  are no geographic restrictions, eligibility requirements, or special setup processes.

  • If you work with local partners, such as housing partners, school districts or any other service providers, who also use Apricot, you can now opt in and begin sharing referrals directly between your systems. This update makes it easier than ever to collaborate across agencies and reduce the inefficiencies that come with email-based referrals, spreadsheets, or disconnected tracking tools.

What to consider before opting in

While the feature is powerful yet simple to enable, successful implementation requires some planning. Before you opt in, to:

  • Identify potential partner agencies who are also using Apricot and are open to collaboration
  • Develop a clear referral strategy between organizations
  • Make sure internal workflows stay intact as you integrate external coordination

Used thoughtfully, Network Referrals can improve service coordination and reduce friction in your day-to-day work. But like any cross-agency tool, it’s most effective when roles, expectations, and workflows are clearly defined. We recommend using this opportunity to enhance, not overhaul, your current system.
